Research on churches and disability
Hello all. As I said I would in my introduction post, I thought I'd post a bit more about my research, in case there is any interest.
I'm researching disability and churches, for a PhD in disability studies and religious studies. I'm looking for disabled people who either attend churches, or used to. (I'm particularly keen to find more people who have left churches for reasons relating to disability, at the moment.) The research aims to explore disabled people's experiences of Christianity in more detail.
If you are interested in taking part, have a look at http://naomijacobs.wordpress.com/ or email me at [email protected] . The research is mostly taking part through discussion groups, but I am happy to talk to you one-to-one if this is more comfortable for you. We can meet in person or over Skype - whichever is more convenient for you.
I am a disabled person and former church-attender myself. I work from a social model perspective and my research is participatory, i.e. I try to work from the views and interests of the disabled people who are taking part in the research. I have a research advisory group of disabled Christians who are helping me to guide the direction of the research, and holding me accountable for what I do in the research.
Look forward to hearing from anyone who might be interested!
