Hello Hannah, I have a 10 years old who struggles with reading comprehension and test taking.  He was recently diagnosed with Auditory Processing Deficit and is undergoing therapy but I think the reading comprehension challenge is coming from not be able to visually process the text, to find the information required.  I also think that is affecting him when he takes test...too much information at once leading to not being able to process the information.  What strategies could he use to help?

    Hi Yaelwal,
The website www.readingrockets.org is great and may be helpful for your son. You may also like to ask your GP to refer him for a specialist optometry assessment of his vision, to rule out any difficulty with tracking, etc. Try encouraging him to read with a piece of plain card/plain rule so he only looks at one line at a time when reading. There could also be difficulty with processing speed, so he may benefit from additional time to re-read text before answering questions.
