Hi I am in need of help for day to day tasks. How do you claim carers allowance and is it paid direct to the carer? Thanks

    Hi brenb

Carer's allowance is paid to someone who provides care for you of 35 hours or more a week but you would first need to be in receipt of a disability benefit at a certain rate for them to be eligible. Also, and this is very important, if someone else claims carer's allowance it could affect the amount of benefit you receive.

Before advising you further I would need to know if you receive any of the following benefits and if so what rates:-

    Disability Living Allowance (DLA)

    Personal Independence Payment (PIP)

    Attendance Allowance (AA)

I would also need to know if you receive any other benefits and if you live alone.

Alternatively if you would rather not post these details on here you could call the Scope helpline on 0808 800 3333. There is also some good information about benefits in general to be found here

    I hope that helps

    Best wishes

    Paul
