Caliper Splints and shoes

Hi,I am getting my 1st caliper splint on 3rd April. I got a total shock when told and left having been told to come back next week with either a trainer or a boot. I only wear dresses or skirts so it was never going to be a trainer. Through a curtain of tears I chose a pair of boots. I don't like them but I don't hate them either. 

I am in a wheelchair and need the splint to attempt to straighten my right foot which has been inverted since a stroke in 1996.

Are there any shoes that are suitable for having splints attached to them? I would really like some shoes for the summer.

Hi @mis_understood do you mind me asking what type of splint you are going to have? Is it going to be a plastic one the fits inside your footwear or a metal caliper type that fits onto the outside of your footwear?

I think it fits inside because he said something about drilling through the heel of the boot or trainer. I was so shocked that I really didn't ask too many questions. I really was hoping for a shoe that would be suitable for summer wear. I only wear dresses or skirts for ease so trainers are a non starter. I got a pair of ankle boots that look fairly light but they are still boots. I desperately want shoes

That sounds to me like the metal caliper type that attaches to the heel of your footwear... I've not had this type myself, I've only seen them on when I've been at orthotics appointments, I would suggest speaking to the department that you are seeing about your splint to see if they can give you other options, as you need to feel comfortable wearing a splint, they may even be able to adapt your own footwear. Thanks for that. I am really self-conscious about it and it is really playing on mental health which isn't good anyway. I don't even know what it will look like as I was so shocked when told that I just wanted to get out. All I remember is a kid in my school, 50 years ago, with a boot with a raiser and caliper for a short leg.

Hi, C-Pro Direct have an option of a brace that is fitted to a normal shoe (for children) https://www.c-prodirect.co.uk/day-adms and doesn't need the AFO to fit into the shoe.
