Caring for recently paralysed daughter

My now 18 year old daughter was recently paralysed in an accident and has been home for 2 months after 6 months in hospital. No carers in place still and I'm pretty exhausted and a bit fed so hoping to connect.

Hi @Gee26 we have some great info here on becoming newly disabled. 

Do you have access to social care? This might include:

• daily living aids and equipment
• adaptations to your home
• practical support from family and friends
• learning to do things differently
• carers or personal assistants (PAs)
• assistance dogs
• advice and local support services

If you’re in contact with health and social care professionals, they should be discussing your care needs with you. If you’re in hospital, this should happen before you leave.

Social care is practical and emotional support to enable you to live independently. It can include help with:

• washing
• dressing
• eating or cooking meals
• working
• volunteering
• taking part in leisure activities and keeping in touch with friends.

Ask for a ‘care needs assessment’ from your local authority social services team.
