edited August 2017 in Carer's allowance
Hi i have just been told tht I have been awarded carers allowance and that its been backdated from January but I wont get any money because we are on. Esa and because of this esa has to look at our benefit again. Does this mean that i might not get my backdated payment from January for carers allowance,

    Hi @newbie

    Bit confusing I'm afraid.

When you're on income-based ESA, the DWP account for your Carer's when calculating your award (e.g. if ESA was £100 and Carer's was £60 the actual ESA paid would be £40) therefore it's correct that the backdate of Carer's won't be paid, as you've had the full amount of ESA for that period.

However. Aside from the Carer's itsself, you should receive a Carer's Premium on the ESA (£34.95/week) which will be backdated for the relevant period.

    Hope this clarifies things?

    Kind regards

    Mary
