Transfer of EHCP?

My son is due to leave his residential college placement in July 2018. He has an EHCP and hopefully will continue to receive support in some form from the LEA. We are thinking of moving and I would be interested in knowing the procedure regarding transfer of the EHCP and the related responsibility from one authority to another. Thanks

The EHCP can remain in place as long as your son is in education or training. At each review, it will be determined whether the support is still needed to enable your son to remain in education. You can request an early review if there is a major change in circumstances so that the support can be there through the transition. When he leaves education or training, the EHCP will cease and at the review there will be a discussion about whether he requires a care plan for health or social care needs.

If you move, the new Local Authority may decide to carry out a new assessment so you will need to give them as much advance notice as possible. IPSEA has some useful information on this

Your local SENDIASS team will be able to give you information about local procedures and available options. You can find this team by searching for 'SENDIASS' and your local authority or the one you are thinking of moving to
