Hi everyone.
Ive just started on my pip journey and just sent off my “How does my disability affect me “ paperwork.
I have osteoporosis and osteoarthritis as well as damage to my right shoulder which I’ve just undergone surgery for due to an accident at work.
I was just successful in claiming industrial injury disablement benefit being assessed as 40% disabled due to the injury, I attended an assessment for that also.
I am wondering how long the claims process for PIP
takes approximately. Any advice would be great thank you

It can vary from area to area.  2+ weeks before you get an assessment date.  And the assessment company only has to give you seven days' notice.  You can change the assessment appointment once.  And you can claim return taxi fares if you agree this with assessment company in advance.

    Hi @Rosie19
As Matilda says, it can be 2-4 weeks till you get an assessment and then up to 8 weeks after your assessment till you get a decision.

Good luck, let us know if you have any other questions

Thank you both..... I had my assessment on Monday, seemed to go ok. Now to play the waiting game on the decision.

    Hi there,
just a quick update, I requested and just received a copy of my ATOS report. It looks quite favourable and appears from report that I will likely be awarded 11points. It appears she has marked me down on some points such as dressing myself and bathing myself saying I need an aid or appliance to be able to dress myself when in actual fact I need help to do this as it’s my right arm that’s the problem if I try to do it without help I’m left in excruciating pain. With the washing and bathing side she has put I need assistance to be able to wash my hair or body below the waist where in actual fact I need help washing my hair and the left side of my body. My question is are DWP liable to take into account what I have said also or just take the word of atos? Many thanks.

Hi @Rosie19, glad to hear that you're feeling positive after receiving your assessment report. My understanding is that the decision made is based on the assessment report, but if you don't get the outcome you're hoping for, you can request a Mandatory Reconsideration. Do keep us updated with the process and we'll support you where we can!
