So to clarify, when making an application for a Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) it doesn't matter how long you have lived in the property prior to making the application. However, it is relevant how long you intend to stay in the property, it can be difficult to get a DFG is you don't intend to stay there for a period of five years.
Basically local authorities don't want to pay out to adapt a property only for the householder to move within five years and have an expectation that another property will be adapted for their needs. The local authority do have some discretion with this but there have been cases where the householder has moved within the specified period and the local authority have taken measures to recover part of the DFG.
