Hello my name is Ann and I have a 5yr old son who has mainly spastic diplegia but also fine motor issues. He is in main stream school which is going well but last night at parents evening we were told he would not reach his year end target as he cannot write ! Quite frankly even with additional hand therapy etc I cannot see him ever forming letters or being able to keep up with the speed of his peers . His reading and maths are fine .Please could anyone advise at what point should they be using alternative technology and if so what sort ,or any any other suggestions you may have .

Thanks for your post and welcome to the Community. You mentioned that your son is having difficulties with his fine motor skills and is struggling with his writing. Is it that he cannot hold a pen? How exactly did the teacher explain it to you?

Hello, he can hold a pen with a grip and can scribble well but he just can’t seem to copy letters even when we try making them large .He can just about copy over large letters with his finger if that makes sense!
