I have just come off my painkillers- gp consent and knowledge-  before anyone panics.  :)
Please don't tweak yourselves without getting professional help.

I have been on them a longtime- minimum of ten years at a guess. I believe they were/are causing adverse side effects beyond what they are supposed to solve.
The ambulance crew paramedic queried why I was on them. I didn't know why he was in front of me so no chance of answering that question sweetie!

My other meds were increased and as most of us know they can have more than one usage.
Day ten, now completely off and all is peaceful at this time.

@whistles, I am glad and wish a lot more people where proactive in their medication and health care. How many people read the leaflets that are in the packets especially the section side effects, between myself and consorting with the pharmthist on side effects I was getting and taking their advice I am now on my fourth Statin. My advice is have a word with your pharmthist about the medications you are taking asking such things as, can I take my morning med all at once or a set time between each. With food or before or after a meal ect. Keep posting whistles you have a talent for keeping us interested and motivated to reply.

    @whistles,
was taken off a medication I’d been on for years, maximum dose and stopped working so asked to come off. Unfortunately the doctor did not say I should reduce the dose slowly and changed to a different tablet.
The withdrawals I suffered were horrendous.
The new sleeping tablet didn’t work so now on a CD but having bad nightmares.
i have looked online as the leaflet was not in the bag!!
nightmares are a side effect but hopefully will ease.
    All I need is sleep

Yes I reduced it gradually over those ten days. Two weeks would have been slightly better, but started noticing side effects going on day five.
It's not been replaced as yet because the other one is also used as a pain relief.

I was on one med (plus painkillers) for years that worked and then stopped working so well so a second med was added.  That worked well but after some years I was getting chest infections.  So I asked consultant if I could return to having the second med (infusion) every eight/nine months instead of the current every six months.

Consultant decided to change me to a different second med instead.  Which was when the trouble began.  Was told I needed a chest X ray first, and then a second.  I'm sure when registrar phoned me in Dec 2017 she said second x ray was clear.  But in Jan 2018 I got a phone message from registrar telling me to go for yet another x ray!

February 2018 still had not began new med and my condition became uncontrolled - very severe pain, stiffness and fatigue.  I asked for my March clinic appointment to be brought forward but because clinical nurse specialist was away sick this proved not to be possible.  On 8 March nurse said she'd order med for me to take myself at home.  Apparently med takes four weeks to arrive.  if i've heard nothing by 4 April I'll ask where the med is.

Meanwhile, my condition remains uncontrolled and getting worse.  The registrar delayed my starting my new treatment to cover herself.  The Nov x ray was clear so I could have begun the new med in Dec 2017 or early Jan 2018, three months earlier than it will have begun (if I'm lucky).

Knowing NHS delays, I should have kept my mouth shut at the hospital about the chest infections and stayed on the original med!  Chest infections would have cleared sooner or later with anti biotics prescribed by my GP which the hospital would have known nothing about.

It is always a good idea to talk to a pharmacist? especially if you take a cocktail of drugs. Pharma's are the experts in drugs and should know more about how diferent combinations work together and any side effects. There are countless combinations and it is unlikely that a GP will have the specialised knowledge as good as they are.

I cant have any over the counter cough or cold stuff because it interacts with current meds. That's a nuisance and I have to hope my body can get rid of it by itself. Still got a random cough after four weeks. But not bad enough to see doc and pick up more bugs.

They have just decided to stop gp prescribing meds that can be bought over the counter. Sure I read that somewhere.
Over the counter is surely cheaper so no idea why would offer it?
The prices of cold and flu stuff I can't afford to catch a cold anyway!

I know we cannot ask for medical advice but I’m wondering if anyone has taken temazepam for sleeping?
Iv recently been given this, I have had insomnia since Christmas, but these tablets are giving me nightmares and still not sleeping properly. I’m not sure how long they take to work properly.

Any help would be gratefully appreciated
