Am I disabled or just sick?

lyndsaycdobbielyndsaycdobbie Posts: 3Member Listener
I was 24 and was diagnosed with phsudo hallucinations. It was brought on by stress. There is no cure. It is not degenerative and it is a tell tale sign if I am stressed or not as it gets better or worse dependant on what I am feeling. I also was diagnosed with depression a year later. I have been struggling mentally and not living in the press the present moment . I am now going through a nervous breakdown at 32 .Kept my same job for 15 years and I have a 2 year old. Think they are getting fed up with my absence due to physical sickness caused by the breakdown. Am I disabled or am I just sick? Ty xx

    Hello Lyndsay @lyndsaycdobbie.
I just stumbled on this post whilst looking for something for somebody else and from here found your introductions post that I replied to back in early April. I'm rather saddened that no-one seems to have got back to you on this.
The 'disabled or sick' question is one that I think only appropriate medical specialists can answer conclusively. Certainly mental health can become disabling.
How are you getting on at present?
And, if you receive this, can you tag your response with @JennysDad so that I will be sure to be notified of it?
    Do hope you are okay.
    Warmest best wishes,
    Richard

Do you have triggers? I’m just wondering if it’s work related stress? Also does your employer have occupation health or employee counselling as you should be getting advice from them through your employer. I know it’s tricky as you are on sick pay at work when you are unwell. But if you suffer from depression like me then you have a mental health disability. Either way your employer has a duty of care to you. If you are stuck I would try citizens advice or your trade union if you are not being supported .Β

Has that started after the birth of your child?Β
Could you have undiagnosed post natal depression?Β
