Extra money because your partner is a carer

Hiya, I won my pip tribunal on Wednesday and I was wondering if esa will backdate the extra 30 odd pound a week because my partner is a carer? He has to phone carers Monday to set his carers claim back up I don't think we will have any back payment from that because we claim ESA jointly, but wondering if they will backdate the extra  because he is a carer on my ESA?

    Hi,

Great news! Yes £36 per week is the Carers Premium and it will be backdated. I think your partner may have to re-claim Carers Allowance and it can take 8-12 for payments to start and the premium to be added to your ESA. You also may have to wait for DWP to decide if they will pay you or ask for the Statement of Reasons, to challenge the decision and they have 28 days to do this. To do this they must find an error in law, which is rare.
I would appreciate it if members wouldn't tag me please. I have all notifcations turned off and wouldn't want a member thinking i'm being rude by not replying.
If i see a question that i know the answer to i will try my best to help.
