SDR Treatment experiences for adults

Hello 
My name is Jay if any adults with Cerepalsy have had SDR treatment to reduce there tight and spasms in their legs and back. I appreciate any advice had and their experience of having done and improve life not as in some case may be

    Hi @Globster
    Good to speak with you! SDR treatment will only be funded on the NHS for children aged 3 years to 9 years. If funded privately the procedure can be carried out up to the age of 12. Those particular age groups have shown a higher success rate after surgery.

    Again...I highly advise an osteopath. They get right through the muscle to the joints.

    For SDR: I've known several people who had an SDR...but they were all kids. The main things to consider for this procedure is massive amounts of physio before and after the operation. So our take on SDR is that if you can...why not put all that physio in before and see whether SDR is absolutely the way to go.

    Are there not other forms of release possible for your needs? PERCS for example? http://lieck3.blogspot.com/2009/04/to-percs-or-not-to-percs.html

    I am not even sure whether they do the pinprick operation in UK. But I'm sure there are several other countries in Europe that do. 

    Also, it is my opinion that unless muscle contracture...it is always possible to physio them into order!  Take a peek at the videos of my son at the bottom of this page to see what I mean...

    As far as I am aware SDR is only performed for (carefully selected adults, under 50 years of age) at the St Louis Hospital USA. Their website says they have treated 70 adults http://www.stlouischildrens.org/our-services/center-cerebral-palsy-spasticity/sdr-adults

    If this is something that you seriously what to explore and have access to the necessary funds it would probably be best to contact them direct for further information. Personally, I would invest in less invasive therapies before considering surgery i.e. physio etc. The fees charged for SDR and aftercare would buy you a great deal of  private physio in the UK.
