I wanted to let you know about Contact’s autumn programme of FREE workshops in Birmingham.

We have a programme of workshops called Brighter Futures aimed at parents with children from birth through to 8 which is being run at the Limbrick Wood Centre in Coventry. This is a welcoming and informative series of workshops run over 6 weeks. It aims to equip parents with the skills and confidence to get the support they need for their child.  It will also help parents to prepare for meetings with professionals regarding their children and to be confident in making decisions for their child.   A couple of sessions cover practical parenting issues dealing with sleep issues and coping with challenging behaviour,  and another discusses money matters and benefits you may be entitled to.

A Solihull parent who attended Brighter Futures said: “People don’t understand how hard it is at times – when you just want to sit in a room and scream. If you are smiling on the outside they think you are okay.”   After the workshops she said: I feel so much better about myself and more positive about how to look after my child and knowing what’s available to make my life easier.”    She is also still in contact with parents she met on the course who continue to offer support to one another.

Coventry parents are also welcome to book on to our Birmingham workshops which include Accessing Statutory Support Services; DLA and PIP workshops, and education-related workshops on School & College Transport issues and Personal Budgets and Direct Payments.

Details of the West Midlands workshops are listed below.  If you are the parent of a disabled or special needs child and would like to book a free place on any of these workshops, please email westmids.office@contact.org.uk or call us on 0121 274 0437
