hi, I've been off work since January and was getting statuary sick pay, it has now stopped but the doctor gave me another sick note, I've phoned job centre they said they didn't know what I had to go on and told me to go to citizens advise for them to try and help me, please help xx

    Hi,
    You should have received a SSP1 form from your employer a few weeks before your SSP finished. You'll need this form to claim ESA, along with a fit/sick note from your GP. Without the form you can't claim ESA. Speak to your employer.

    You also need to check what's in your area, if it's a full Universal credit area then you need to claim New Style Contributions based ESA. If it's not a full UC area then you claim Contributions based ESA. Same benefits but different ways to claim them.
