Phased Return to Work

Hi, I'm currently off sick due to workplace stress, my union rep is involved as my managers haven't been acting properly. I have been advised by my counsellor and my occupational therapist to ask for a phased return to work when I am ready to go back. My question is how will doing this affect my earnings? Would I be paid for the hours I do or paid my wage and if I'm only paid for the hours I do do I get sick pay on top?
Just want to know my situation as I still have to pay rent and other bills. Oh and eat.
