Retinitis Pigmantosa and childbirth

nayshoolnayshool Member Posts: 2 Listener
Hi all,

My wife has been recently diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmantosa. She has a de-novo insertion in the prpf31 gene, which means it's an autosomal dominant form of RP.
She is also pregnant (fifth month). We want to make sure that during the childbirth there won't be any more escalation with the disease progress.
Does anyone know or have more info about the influence of childbirth on the progression of Retinitis Pigmentosa (due to the severe pain and pressure)?
If there is, can we solve it by doing C-section?

thank you in advance.
