Finding a local reader

Hi,

I am wanting to read a book (its a semi technical book about the Apollo Guidance computers).

Even before I became disabled I am dyslexic and dyspraxic.

Now I am not able to read more then a few sentences. It is not available as an audio book and anyway I have found that unless I heard it before I was ill, I cannot follow it. This is a shame as I have an enormous repository of audio books.

Anyway  to the point.

I am trying to find someone local that could read it to me. It would of course need many sessions.

Has anyone any idea who I could contact (I live in Cheshire) to try to sort this out?

It's not as easy as people think reading to someone. My wife has tried and it did not work.

Hi @g1gop, interesting question! This isn't something I've come across before but you make a really valid point.

The only thing I could think to suggest was possibly asking on your local Gumtree page or any local Facebook groups, however our members may have some better suggestions!

This is a really interesting point @g1gop and not a service I have heard of before! I know you say your wife couldnt manage, but do you have any other friends or family members who could help?

The only other thing I could think of is your local college, do they have any students studying to support disabled people who might be able to help as some sort of work experience?

Hi @g1gop I looked up some information on this and don't know if you are already aware, and maybe the particular book you are interested in doesn't come in audio format,  but this link may be helpful
