Need to know where to go from here.  My husband has suffered for more than ten years with Copd,  only 25/30 percent lung function;( caused through his work as a paint sprayer, non smoker ever) and has been able to receive dla for ten years,  he has obviously not improved over the last ten years but has now failed in his pip assessment as no medical history was asked for, he had also been discharged from hospital in the previous week with heart failure.   He has phoned the reassessment team who have said he needs to get the medical history for them.  He has phoned his gp and they have told him they only release history to pip if they email and ask for it.  Catch 22 as pip won’t ask for it and drs won’t release it unless pip ask for it!!   What can we do now please?

Hello @Jack2306   Pleased to meet you welcome.

Thank you for joining and sharing.  Sorry what has happened.  I am one of the team of community champions who guide, advise and help new members who join.

Understand your situation. I would like to suggest if you ask the Surgery about Patient Access so you can have any prescriptions delivered.  By the chemist who you can nominate. All helps. Also can access medical records down load them if you wish to.

Have a look on the web might be different companies. I use Patient Access which means I get my prescriptions delivered, have access to my medical records.

Usually set up with the surgery and they give you signing in details.  Details of how to set anything up.

Please can I also advise if there are problems doing this then you need to speak to the practise manager of the surgery and ask what you need to do.

Please also try not to worry I know the whole PIP assessments are stressful and we are here as a community to advise you.  Be supportive.

Please if we can help further please ask anything.

    Take care.

@Jack2306,  You can ask your surgery for your husbands medical records anytime and they have to provide what you need as you have a right to have access to them. Your husband would have to ask as they're his records. Ask your surgery what they need to have by way of a form or signed letter by your husband if he's not well enough to go himself. They will print out any timescale (in years) that you ask for. There may be a small admin charge. Ask also for copies of any letters from Specialists which there will be if he's recently been in hospital. I'm afraid the onus is on you to collect evidence you can't rely on the Assessment Provider to get them as you now know even if they're supposed to.
