I'm a support worker for people with learning disabilities but am presently off sick with physical problems due to fibromyalgia etc and anxiety. My husband does the same job plus he works at Victoria hospital as a him on the bench. My son is living with us again staying in a caravan in our back garden because he needs my help with coming off alcohol. He is an alcohol abuser and desperately needs help with this and with his mental health! My husband doesn't understand my son's problems and is very protective over my health and well being hence an atmosphere between both of them. HELP!!

Hello @sukiyaki  Thank you for contacting the community.

Thank you for sharing.  I am an reformed alcoholic and have been clean now for twelve years.

I do understand what you are going through with you and your husband.

The big problem with addiction I will say is that he needs professional guidance and help.

You can not do this alone.

There are options you can do.   First one is you need specialist help to come off you must understand this.

You can contact your GP who can refer your son to a rehab centre. You can contact them .  Look on line for information.  In your area.

This may I advise also you contact this charity I used before.

It is a mental health charity.  Who deals with addiction as well mental health.

    https://www.richmondfellowship.org.uk.

I also have the contact details for the following organisations

    AA .Alcoholics Anoymous

    National Helpline 0800 9177 650.

Please can I add it is a difficult situation you are in.

This I need to say to you. If he refuses to participate in any programme. You need to sign in over your son to any programme yourselves.

There are Mental Health Acts and certain legalities.  Your rehab centre or your GP will explain to you.

This happened to me . I refused to admit had an alcohol problem. So was I admitted under a Legal part of the Mental Health Act.

This one of the problems with addiction of any sort. Unless he admits he has a problem or an issue.  Then you have to use legal means.

I have been there. Became an outpatient through my GP.  Entered Rehab. Got signed in by former friends  as I refused to go.

The Clinics are staffed by support workers and recovery workers.

I do understand the torment, the emotion and pain.

I am here anytime if you wish to ask me anything.

    Pleasure to meet you.

    Please take care.
