Need help with moving house?

Hi I'm name is Abby from Fleetwood I have learning disabilities plus I have medical conditions too deal with I'm looking too move to Lancaster but because me and husband are not from Lancaster we can't move does anyone have any advice please thankyou

Have you considered calling Shelter. Their website is https://england.shelter.org.uk/get_help  They may be able to give you some ideas. They deal with housing issues and provide advice.  If you don't want to call it looks like you can contact them online.

Do you have any family there or any local connection to the area? Would you be able to argue it would be beneficial to move there, or would you be able to look into private renting to have a presence in the area until you're higher priority on the housing register?
Failing that, as mentioned elsewhere in the thread, mutual exchange might be the way to go.

I sympathise I had this issue after my amputation I wanted to move town to be closer to family as I live with only my teenage son. I was born in the town I wanted to move to and my mum and brother lived there so had family connection. However I was not classed as priority as I didn't need daily care. I have had to stay in my current town so I rely on family visits and my son and only way we can get out is taxi.
About time councils realised a move to another town is vital at times for quality of life. If we was near family they could take us out visit more often give my son more outings and we wouldn't miss out on all the family gatherings

A very warm welcome.

I know Lancaster and there is great demand for housing, as it has a large university, so you might struggle to obtain private rental and there is very limited social housing.

Have you looked at neighbouring towns, such as Morecambe, there might be more prospects there.

As suggested, shelter would be the best port of call.

Contact your local council. Do you have a social worker or not? The social worker may be able to provide information and answer your questions. Also call or email a housing association. Look online to find a housing association based locally.

i have started threads like this in the past, I would like to move closer to my partner but I have no familial ties so her council has said there is no point me being on the list, we cannot live together because her house isnt adapted and she works so i would lose all but my PIP, it seems this is quite a common problem for disabled people, meaning the lack of ability or opportunity to move around, I was wondering if organisation like scope were lobbying government to make it easier.

If i were to move in with my partner and be able to keep my esa it would still mean that an adapted property would become available for someone and i would stop claiming for housing and council tax benefit

This situation causes us both a great deal of stress and seems very unfair on disabled people
