Mobility scooter first timer

My dad recently lost his leg above the knee due to vascular problems and he's recently acquired a used Quingo Plus mobility scooter as a temporary measure just to get out of the house whilst he looks around for a decent powerchair. This is his first foray into scooter ownership and I was wondering if there was any advice and knowledge that can be given, particularly from other Quingo owners.

One thing we noticed and we don't know if it's normal behaviour or not but there seem to be a slight delay between the electric brake releasing and the wheels driving off so if it's on an incline it'll roll back slightly before taking off. It was a bit disconcerting when we first experienced it.

Hi @neilmcl and welcome to the group.  

It's quite normal with all class 2 scooters if starting off uphill but it should only take a second and no more than a half turn of the wheel. Like you say it can be a bit disconcerting at first but there really is no cause for alarm and you'll soon not give it another thought.  That's only my opinion of course but if you're still anxious a quick email to Quingo should set your mind to rest.

One piece of advice on using a scooter.....watch out for the angle of slope on pavements or when crossing driveways.  The sudden change from flat and smooth can cause stability problems.  Best wishes to your Dad and hope he enjoys his re-found freedom.

Oh fantastic! He's going to love the freedom of a scooter and then a chair. I use a power chair and it's mint! 

Yeah a few obstacles now and again but the freedom far outweighs any challenges. 

Like driving a car or a bike it rakes a wee bit of practise. I'd recommend supermarkets and out of town shopping centres first as they are flat and give you practise in manoeuvring.
