UNUSUAL COLLECTIONS THE WEIRD AND WONDERFUL WHAT DO YOU COLLECT.?

Hello every one  thought share that I used to collect Elvis Presley Memorabilia.

Also other things as well.  The old fashioned postcards and anything TV and Rock and Roll.

In my business I set up dealing in collectables met many wonderful and amazing people.

A lot of the stories, facts and did you know on the recent posts .. All come from meeting these people. Add to that those connected with music, TV and film.

Back room staff, cutting crews, session musicians and so on.

In that time met collectors.  Who collected unusual, weird and wonderful things.

I met the following who collected. Hoovers and any cleaning apparatus . One lad whom I had visited.   Had a dirty home but had all these hoovers.

Lawn mowers and garden equipment.

Cigarette rolling papers on some of these are intricate designs especially the early ones.

Old typewriters, computers, office equipment.

Kitchen utensils and equipment, spice mills grinders any Victorian or older Cooking equipment.

Cookery books from a lady who never cooked. Liked reading them in bed.   Had a oven and other kitchen equipment. The oven still had wrapping paper inside.

Then you get the collectors who just like a famous star or singer or performer.

Then it becomes an obsession .  Went to one collectors  house I recall . Disney stuff and film items used to go to New York every three months or so.

David Whitfield, who was Britain's first big singer before Rock and Roll. The song Cara Maria been no1 for 24 weeks I believe around 1953.

Deanna Durbin was an Actress in the Forties worked with Judy Garland.

Lots of the Films have dedicated collectors.

Wizard of Oz, Casablanca, Gone with The Wind.

Not forgetting Sons of the Desert. The Laurel and Hardy Appreciation Society.

Please can I ask what is the weird, wonderful you collect.?  The unusual.

Thanks for reading.

Take care.

I collect tickets from place I have been, even if that isn't unusual! When I was younger I did collect bottle tops. I had a bag of them from all different drinks.

As anyone who knows me, I love cats and as well as having the real thing, I collect anything with cats on it.  This includes lots of cat ornaments that I have dotted everywhere, tea-towels, fridge magnets and books about cats.  Yes, I'm a mad cat lady, lol!   :D

Hello @Chloe_Scope   Thank you for sharing.

People do collect tickets.  Also bottle tops as well.

Along the paper theme. I know of people who collect anything paper based through their doors.

Includes take out  menus, fly posters, leaflets anything paper and amass a collection.

    A history builds up.

The main reason collecting started was a talking point on an evening . In those days of no media or TV or Radio.

As now it is a fascinating subject.

I have a list somewhere of what each collector is called their collective names. On the web.

Deltiology the study and collecting of postcards.

Philately the collecting of stamps so on.

I have to try and find it.

    Take care.

Hello @Ails   My friend thank you for sharing.

I had this feeling knew what you collected lol..

So much out there.  Please can I ask have you heard of Louis Wain?.

The cat artist worth looking out for.

Did you know ?  Drew animals mainly cats. Also chimps and parrots.

Illustrated in  various magazines.  In the early part of the 1900's.

    Had  mental illness and schizophrenia.

The later cat designs you can see the mental health issues in his drawings.  Very vivid and scary wide eyed.. Expressive and colourful.

Died in an asylum in the twenties I believe.

You can buy prints originals pricey.

    Something to look out for.

    Speak soon.

    Take care.

I collect arcade game boards that went into arcade machines. I currently have around 11, and have a device that allows me to play on my TV. The cool thing being you don't have to blow loads of money playing them like when I was a kid. Some games were really hard!

I also collect films and music CDs, I suppose I am kind of old fashioned, I just really like having cases with the artwork and disks compared to digital only versions of film and music.

    This is a interesting hobby!
I currently collect leaflets. When I was smaller, I used to collect vacation brochures and pebbles from beaches, I decorated them afterwards. I also collected pinecones on family country walks in the wood and kept old concert tickets too.

Hello @M_Anthony   Thank you for sharing. Do know some of the art work is collectable by certain artists.

On Vinyl and other related.  Some of it is stunning.

Liked The Seventies art work .

Always eye catching and very much a selling point.

Arcade games. Seems that every time TV programme was broadcast and a Arcade game would follow.

Some of course become legendary to collect anything Doctor WHO or Star Wars.

    Take care.

Hello @RainbowJo   Thank you for commenting on my post and sharing.

I do think it can be an obsession but there again if you start collecting you never know who you might meet or talk to.

    Make a friend with.

Every item is a talking point and a memory.

I know can be sometimes difficult to stop having been there.

My thoughts and prayers to you.

    Take care.

Since we are moving in two weeks (14th Sept) I have been collecting unused cardboard boxes from friends. I even put out a appeal a month ago asking for boxes. I also collect newsletters too.

Hello @April2018mom   Please can I suggest speak to your local supermarket for boxes.

Used to move a lot . Have done the moving all stressful would just say.

Supermarkets can be useful as it is having a folder with a list of essential and the necessary to hand.

Handy phone numbers the services, gas, electric and anything like landlords.  Council or housing association.  Or others you might need such as broadband services.

Also have a box to hand with those items need to use all the time. Kitchen rolls, Tissues and cleaning products plus those other stress free essential a kettle a box of teabags or coffee and milk etc.

    Wish you well.

    Take care.
