Just hoping to try and meet other people like me. My diagnosis has started to sink in now and I feel like I’ve got answers to the questions I have been asking. Along with that, so many other questions that need answering. I don’t know anyone else with autism who isn’t in a care setting and it’s debilitating and isolating. The general perception of people with autism as far as I can see isn’t really a good one, especially after working in care for the past few years. I know I’m a lot luckier than some but seeing/knowing what you lack compared to other people around you is disheartening - just long to have people to talk to about things that aren’t doctors/specialists who are paid to listen. Any suggestions on what to do next would be much appreciated

My son aged 29 years was diagnosed with Autism in 1990 and so I kind of know how your own diagnosis seems difficult at times for you. I must however praise you for your exceptional communication skills and your command of the written English language... Nobody can know what 'tomorrow' may bring, but there is nothing stopping you from 'planning ahead' for the future subject to your own personal abilities. It is so very true that the more independent a person is, the more opportunities will become easier... After all, you came on here by your own doing, and you've already reached out to others!
You are always most welcome to tell us more about yourself, your hobbies perhaps or any of your pastimes? 'Your' concerns, are 'our' concerns too, and so we'll always help you as much as we can or as little as you want? You may even find yourself helping others on here? Such is SCOPE...
Don't suffer in silence...
Best to You - Rodders

Hi @connoro007. Good to see you again. I'm glad you've managed to get answers to some of the questions you had. Unfortunately I think it's often par for the course that one answer spawns half-a-dozen other questions.
Have you thought about trying any local social groups for people with Autism?Community Manager
