Hi, lm a parent of a 22 year old young man with a physical disability. He's finding it really difficult to find a job due to low self esteem and confidence. Is there any support out there for him please

Hello @Lin50Potter   Pleased to meet you.

    Sorry to hear this.
I am one of the team of community champions. We advise, help and support members of our community.
Please if I can make some suggestion and ideas.
Please can I ask what sort of employment does he wish to do.?
I would consider looking at this company there a agency deals with our community.
Also there are Training Companies that can help and assist with employment opportunities, please have a look on line.
My area in the North East has a training company called Shaw Trust.  They help those with disabilities illness or conditions to look at employment opportunities.
Please see what they is in your local area.
Please contact me and I will look for you if you tell me  where you live areas.
    If your experiencing problems.
Also may I add depends what your sons physical disability is. There are organisations, associations supporting those with specific physical disabilities, illness and conditions.
Please if you could share a little more, might find that many of them have employment advisors and as they could offer any leads or advice.
One such organisations are mental health charities.
    This one I used
Has employment advisors as well as looking at benefits wellbeing. Offer floating support.
Add to that can assist with Job centre Plus and attend interviews. I had this myself . Used a support worker to attend signing on days.
Please has you contacted Job centre plus used to have DEA.
    Disability Employment Advisors.
Please can also add look at volunteering . Community Volunteering  unit needs people.  Look under your local council services on their website.
Many of the charities I volunteered for gave me self esteem, confidence.

Hi, thank you for the quick response. My son has a left side hemipa raise. His legs a fine, mostly affects his left hand with limited fine motor skills. He also has lots of back pain. He plays football for Albion in the Community. He has FA Level 2 qualification and does a little bit of coaching with AITC. This is what he is passionate about. We live in the south east near Brighton.

Hello @Lin50Potter   Thank you for reply. Spent some time on webpages.
I would suggest have a look at any of the links. Pleasure to help you.
I would also advise some marketing for your son.
Newspapers are one such source, every one likes a story about disabled people especially the young.  Could be useful some one be interested add to that signing with agencies and job employment vacancies will emerge.
These might help. Understand his frustration, sit down have a cuppa and note pad take your time.
I do this a lot by the way for myself. Sit down look at around my local area.
    Hope these helps.
Please add what you need for your son, plenty of promising and useful information on employment and training.
There is a disabled groups association of clubs in East Sussex you would need to find a look what is good and supportive for your son.

    Hope that helps you.
Please if I can help with anything further please get in touch.
    Please take care.

Hi @Lin50Potter. The Support to Work service can be provided online and via telephone, if that's something that would be of use to you?
