received carers allowance for dad but lived elsewhere looking after a friend who I could not   register  carers allowance  as only for one person dad passed away in October I was receiving some income support and small amount of housing benefit  I know the carers allowance pay for 6 weeks even after a death I believe  I have now registered the other person I look after care for who I have done for 6 months as I have not changed address at all  and the person lives at the shared address as me  will I need to inform any one or do any other new claims other than the carers allowance which has been done as it states 3 months can be backdated  for the new claim  so there will be  a transition I presume  ..and no spaces  of not  claiming any carers allowance  many thanks

    HI,

I'm sorry to hear about your Dad. Carers allowance is paid for 8 weeks after the person your caring for passes away and not 6 weeks. If you claimed the carers allowance for the other person straight away then it should be sorted by the time it ends for your dad. If this happens then there won't be any backdated money owed. You won't need to inform anyone because Carers allowance will contact Income support.
I would appreciate it if members wouldn't tag me please. I have all notifcations turned off and wouldn't want a member thinking i'm being rude by not replying.
If i see a question that i know the answer to i will try my best to help.

That's not classed as a change of circumstances and there's no need to contact anyone.
