Hi. I have a friend who is on the same benefits as me. He is on ESA income-related and in the support group. He wants to know if gambling and winnings from lottery or bingo etc will affect his ESA and if he should report the winnings on gambling?

    Hi,

If the winnings takes his savings to £6,000 and over then yes he will need to report them. They will affect his ESA £1 for every £250 over that amount. If the winnings take his savings to more than £16,000 then all of his means tested benefits will stop.

Anything under £6,000 is disregarded and doesn't need reporting.
I would appreciate it if members wouldn't tag me please. I have all notifcations turned off and wouldn't want a member thinking i'm being rude by not replying.
If i see a question that i know the answer to i will try my best to help.
