The National Audit Office (NAO) is carrying out a study that focuses on the process of making a claim for Universal Credit (UC) and getting to the first payment. As part of this, they are interested in hearing from claimants and organisations that support claimants.

The questions are:

  1. What are the main issues people face in making a claim for UC and getting to first payment?
  2. What progress do you think the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has made in trying to address these issues?
  3. To what extent do different groups experience different problems when making a claim?
  4. Why might some claimants delay making a claim to UC?
  5. How effective is government support for claimants going through the initial claim process?
  6. To what extent have advances and housing benefit two-week run-on been effective in helping claimants over the 5-week wait?
  7. How would you describe DWP’s engagement with you regarding issues arising from the initial claim process and UC in general?

If you would like to share your views and contribute to Scope’s response, please provide answers in the comments by Friday 24 January. You do not need to respond to all of the questions, just those that you would like to provide feedback on.

We are happy to keep any information anonymous within our response to the NAO. If you have any questions about the study or Scope’s response, or would like give you responses anonymously, please contact nina.huszarik@scope.org.uk.

Alternatively, if you would prefer to share your views and experiences directly with the NAO, you can complete the questionnaire online.

You can find further information about the study on the NAO’s website.

Completed. As luck would have it, my solicitior has been in touch today and they are keen to take my second DWP UC challenge to court as soon as possible.

Very good news. I didn't expect such a quick response.

Here's to a change in legislation?
