Hello, I am seeking information for my daughter.

My daughter is currently living in a property which she and her ex partner had a mortgage.  He left the family home 3 years ago .  My daughter’s disabilities have worsened over the years and she is thankfully being rehoused by the local authority.  A stair lift is being installed for her .
Her  2 children will be moving with her but she will have very little to take with her with regards to furniture etc.  Her own bed is broken in any case.   I will do what I can to help but do not have the funds to completely furnish her new home.
It is a difficult situation made more so by the fact that her ex partner will move back into the property and is reluctant to let her take anything with her.
Would she be able to claim something towards a cooker , a bed etc. Perhaps some flooring ?
It seems a real cheek to ask but I thought it was worth a question.

    Thank you very much.

    Hi,

You haven't stated whether she claims any means tested benefits like ESA/Income Support or JSA? If she doesn't then a budgeting loan maybe possible if she's been claiming either of them for at least 6 months. This is a loan which will need to be repaid back from future benefit payments and because she has children then the maximum she can have is £812 BUT if she's had a budgeting loan in the past and has any outstanding money owed then this will reduce the amount she can borrow. See link.

If she claims Universal Credit then a budgeting advance payment maybe possible, if she's been claiming for at least 6 months and earned less than £2600 in 6 months. the same rules apply here as the budgeting loan.  https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/benefits/universal-credit/on-universal-credit/budgeting-advance/

Also search for grants here https://grants-search.turn2us.org.uk/

She should also look on her local facebook group or gumtree for furniture. People always give away furniture on freesites. If it's not free then people sell lots of furniture for really cheap.

Sometimes local councils give grants for white goods and carpets but this will depend on the budget of her local council and all councils are different.

    Hope this helps.

I would appreciate it if members wouldn't tag me please. I have all notifcations turned off and wouldn't want a member thinking i'm being rude by not replying.
If i see a question that i know the answer to i will try my best to help.
