Hi Everyone, I'm new to the group, I was told I couldn't claim carers allowance because both my ,able bodied, husband and I have a state pensions but are not entitled to pension credits so therefore not entitled to carers allowance but I should still apply for carers allowance because just applying means we are entitled to hidden benefits. I was wandering if anyone else has experienced this anomaly. Kind Regards to everyone.

Hi and good morning; its what is known as an "over-lapping" benefit i.e if you get one you can't get the other, but as they said its worth applying to get under-lying benefits possibly see here>

Hi,The "hidden benefits" will come from either the increase in pension credit or being entitled to pension credit for the first time because of the carers premium that is added to the carers allowance. This means that if even with the carers premium you're still not entitled to pension credit then there will be no other underlying entitlement to other benefits.I would appreciate it if members wouldn't tag me please. I have all notifcations turned off and wouldn't want a member thinking i'm being rude by not replying.If i see a question that i know the answer to i will try my best to help.
