Hi, my name is Paddie! Instant Stopping of Alcohol!!!

PaddiePaddie Member Posts: 75 Courageous
Hiya all.
It has now got to the point where I have literally no choice but to stop drinking.

I was drinking a can of lager & a bottle + of Red wine every night ( I’ve never drank during the day) this has caused major issues with my marriage not to mention my health.

I have contacted Addaction but in the present climate they can not help with a home detox.
My husband, has no idea Re the risks involved in suddenly stopping drinking but,  as I’ve said I now find I have no choice.

I’m stopping tonight & as I know the dangers of withdrawals ( it’s happened to me before) I’m going to take more of the medication that I have already.

I’m already extremely anxious now & it’s only approaching 1pm so, what I’ll be like when it comes to  9-9:30Pm when  I usually start to drink God only knows.

This has to happen so, there is no use in talking me out of it.
I would just be so very grateful for any other advice or words of encouragement.

To be honest, if it wasn’t for the present climate & every self catering accommodation closed, I would “run away” & just carry on drinking.... just to have some time on my own for a while.
I think Lockdown has been pushing a lot of people to the edge.

However, I am hurting my husband ( emotionally) & I do love him so much that I can not continue to hurt him any more.

Thank you for reading this..... if you have

Paddie

    Hi @Paddie

Good Afternoon it’s great to meet you today.

Sorry but we only offer practical information & emotional support to disabled people.

But I can ask if you have seen your GP with regards to this??

Do you have a local “CAB” as they should be able to help you??

Hi @Paddie, It is great that you are now able to think about your alcohol consumption. Stopping all alcohol immediately when you are dependant upon it can have real adverse effects on your health.
I would suggest that you speak with your G.P. first, they may be able to help with medication to ease the withdrawal process.

I am disabled & have used this site before under the “Mental Health” title.
Im afraid my GP really doesn’t want to know.
The Surgery has gone into Edoctor Mode. Which means you can not see a GP face to face or speak to one either.
I am on my own on this one I’m afraid & was hoping people like the Spiceman could help me.
    Best Wishes

@Paddie, you can request a telephone appointment with your doctor. Please be careful detoxing at home.

Hi @Paddie Welcome t the community, I am glad you have joined us. I would suggest if you are serious about giving up and want to stay that way then you do it with support from either your GP or a group.

If you just go cold turkey I dont think you will sustain it, it is the first stage that you have recognised it is a problem and identified it is hurting your partner, and that is commendable

I have posted a link below I dont know if you may find this helpful

    Hi @Paddie

Yes you can ask for a “phone call appointment” with your GP which is the best way really.

@Paddie unfortunately the Spiceman is taking a break from the forum and is greatly missed. Hopefully someone else who has faced similar problems might have some advice. Good luck you've made the first step. I would take @Richard_Scope advice . A lot of surgeries are doing 'visual' appointments on line?

Hi @Paddie - I've been reading through your previous posts, as I thought I'd messaged you before. You were asking about cannabis for pain control, & I mentioned trying cannabidiol (CBD) which I've found lessens some of my pain; thespiceman joined in, totally against this, not realising that CBD contains negligible THC (the psychoactive part).
I mention this for a couple of reasons.....I wonder if your pain is under control? & also that thespiceman has become a very dear friend of mine.
As mentioned above, ring your GP but mentioning all your issues; about pain, about your mental health & about your alcohol dependency.  This is a time when you need all the support you can get. I also have a little understanding, as my lovely son-in-law is an alcoholic, & thespiceman continues to give me great advice & support, as he knows how much this affects me, as well as my daughter, & 3 grandchildren.
I'm sure the spiceman likely gave you the following link, as they help with mental health issues & also addiction problems. I say this kindly, as I know that alcohol dependency is a disease like any other. Please see: https://www.richmondfellowship.org.uk/
I'd also like you to know that I'm a physio, tho I haven't worked as such in a very long time. I saw you were a nurse; a profession I've a lot of respect for, having worked alongside some great nurses.
My genetic disorder eventually caught up with me (the hypermobile type of Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome), & our family is also affected by Chiari 1 Malformation. Not a great combination!
Anyway, if I can offer my support too, I'd be grateful. I also hold the same belief as the spiceman, so I'll say this for both of us,
You are in my thoughts & prayers.

Thank you so much for yours & everyone’s response.
it has been so uplifting to know there are people out there who  don’t know me but care... that means so much to me!
I’m am getting absolutely no where with my GP, my CPN or my Addaction recovery worker.
I have had no option but to try & “detox” my own way.
covid 19 is being used as an excuse & I believe this will be the way things are done in the future.
I didn’t sleep very well last night despite taking medication that I thought would knock me out.
However, I’m on a cocktail of medication anyway so my tolerance to drugs is high.
I’ll just have to see what today brings.
I’m already very depressed but I’m hoping that doesn’t get any worse.
And yes, pain is a huge factor in this & alcohol was a great painkiller.
I truly do not understand why, if a drug works successfully for someone, a GP/Consultant will not use their discretion & prescribe it.
To me, it truly beggars belief!
Thank you again & God Bless
I do so hope the Spiceman is well.
    Bw

Good morning @Paddie - I've been taking CBD for nearly 2 years.....is it a cure-all, no, but it can help. It especially helps with anxiety, depression & pain. It's even been found to help with addiction recovery. Please would you read the following, & if you'd like to try it, I can advise on the best CBD to try, & how to take it. Some people feel it doesn't work for them, but often that seems to be because they haven't found the right type of CBD; have started at too high a dose, etc. Please see: https://www.netdoctor.co.uk/healthy-living/mental-health/a25601198/cbd-oil-anxiety/    there's also a link on this page to CBD for pain. Let me know what you think.
Just to say it's something you can get quickly. I ordered some more on Sunday evening, & have just received some. Sometimes I've even got my CBD the following day.
I'll let thespiceman know you were asking about him.

    Hi @chiarieds

Good Morning I do hope that you are okay 😃

Yes I have got some CBD which I have been dabbling with for some time.

It definitely helps but I need to get the right amount which is proving “easier said than done”

But I will get there in the end believe me.

Is there anything that I can help you with whilst thespiceman
    is away????

    Hello @Paddie

I am thinking of you a great deal.  You are very courageous because having an addiction is so very hard and you deserve the help you are not getting.  Please try not to beat yourself up.  Alcohol is the most addictive substance that is merrily displayed and advertised everywhere with no warnings whatsoever about the dangers.  There is help available and I have asked the community team to get back to me about sharing this with you.

    Thank you for reaching out.
