What makes you happy?

leeCalleeCal Member Posts: 535 Pioneering
There are always things to make us sad or unhappy but this thread is to talk about things which make us happy or cheerful.

Something that makes me happy is seeing little shoots pop up when I plant seeds, and there are lots of other things too, but what makes you happy?
😊

    Hi @leeCal

I would have to say my son brings me more joy than anything and makes me happy (most of the time lol) b ut I guess most people will say their children.

I also like baking cakes and people eating them
  • leeCalleeCal Member Posts: 535 Pioneering
Hi @janer1967 I must admit I do like fruitcake a bit too much! 😊
  • janer1967janer1967 Community champion Posts: 2,241 Disability Gamechanger
@leeCal Not one of my specialities as I dont like dried fruit, maybe I should make them though as it would stop me eating them. IMy favourites to make are

Choc fudge, coffee and walnut, lemon drizzle and strawberries and cream.

I made banoffi pie at the weekend
  • leeCalleeCal Member Posts: 535 Pioneering

@vikingqueen Do you like eating cake or baking cake and what is your favourite
  • vikingqueenvikingqueen Member Posts: 125 Pioneering
@janer1967 I like eating and baking   :) i tend to only bake when my granddaughter comes to visit, she is only 7 but a dab hand with a whisk... Lemon drizzle goes down well or just a victoria sponge  :)

This is a nice thread :)

I really enjoy going for a drive through the countryside on the B roads. I am a driving enthusiast so I enjoy the act of driving but even putting that to one side I like the sights, sounds and smells of the countryside and really enjoy being there so even if I get stuck behind a lorry or caravan it doesn't really matter as I can still appreciate being outside. I have done track driving where you focus on nothing else but driving, but really nothing compares with a relaxed drive through some country lanes. :)

I also like a drink of something nice like a craft beer, cocktail or glass of wine.

Sadly my two things don't mix. :D

This afternoon I had a nice chat with an old friend, haven’t seen him since March! We talked of old times and nothing much but just enjoyed the company, something else which makes me happy 😊. Also with a nice cup of tea! Sadly no cake 🍰
  • leeCalleeCal Member Posts: 535 Pioneering
@66Mustang the first time I ever explored lanes seriously was when I had a Vespa scooter. Many years ago and a lot less traffic on the road in those days. I still amaze people sometimes by knowing various shortcuts and scenic routes. Great fun, except for the greenfly I seem to remember which were a very real and present danger...to your hairstyle! ( before helmets)

Hi @katho31, I hope your team does well this evening.
On a different matter, someone asked me how to send a message, a pm, and I thought you just entered the online name in recipients but that doesn’t work. Do you have to put the actual persons email address in the recipients box? Ta.

its okay katho31 I’ve found an old post which explains it well. 🙂

Hi @leeCal, we did it!!! thanks for your message  :) last night was a mixture of happiness, memories of my late dad and also the hillsborough families loss who we hold dear in our hearts and euphoria that we waited 30 years to lift the cup, amazing night  :)

Things that make me happy are... cricket, my family and friends, my mum's cooking, gardening - even weeding, because it's just nice to get outside. Also, Tolkien's books.
I love lemon drizzle too! But my favourite is carrot cake. And my mum found a really good gluten free dairy free recipe so now I can eat it again!
  • Chloe_ScopeChloe_Scope Administrator Posts: 9,519 Scope community team
Ooo the cakes sound lovely @Francis_theythem! My favourites would have to be sticky toffee pudding or lemon drizzle.

A Personal letter or parcel in the post I find very exciting even if I’ve ordered the parcel myself...doh!

    I actually haven't had a letter since I was a young boy but a card suffices. 🚗
  • leeCalleeCal Member Posts: 535 Pioneering
Hi @Francis_theythem I like gardening too and I manage better by having plants in pots. Firstly I can move them wherever I like and secondly there are far far less weeds to contend with, which makes me...happy! 😀
  • katho31katho31 Member Posts: 699 Pioneering
Hi @leeCal and everyone  :) i started my hanging baskets 3 months ago, after a break of 3 years!! they are so lovely and really blossoming  :) still think the sight of the goose and her ducklings following her is as cute as anything  :)
  • katho31katho31 Member Posts: 699 Pioneering
Oh and the smell of fish and chips from a chip shop mmmmmm :)
  • leeCalleeCal Member Posts: 535 Pioneering
Definitely @katho31 and the smell of cooking onions from a hot dog stall! Powerful stuff.
  • katho31katho31 Member Posts: 699 Pioneering
Oh yes!!! i just love that smell and i adore onions so much  :) think we will have to get some fingers rolls and get the hot dogs and onions going!! some have mustard its just bit too hot for me  :)
  • Francis_theythemFrancis_theythem Member Posts: 23 Courageous
It's ages since I had stick toffee pudding! I should ask my mum to make it for me. There's coffee cake downstairs at the moment though! I must not get too hasty :P
Gardening's really good for me both physically and mentally, and a good motivation to go outside. I've only just been able to start it again so I hope I can continue
Definitely getting a hanging basket or plant pots when I go back to uni!
  • katho31katho31 Member Posts: 699 Pioneering
Oh sounds lovely the coffee cake  :) yum yum  :) yes i agree, plants, herbs and just seeing how the changing seasons help them  :)
  • Francis_theythemFrancis_theythem Member Posts: 23 Courageous
It is!! I used to love herbs so much before I got ill, especially learning all the folk traditions and medical things it used to be/is used for. Hopefully I can rekindle that a bit. What are your favourite flowers and herbs?

Ah, the first cup of tea, yes.
also sharing a pot of tea with a friend, which I did recently. Furthermore before I left he gave me a pot of home made damson jam and two metres of timber, now that’s what I call a friend. All of which made me very happy indeed 😊.
