I am in inoperable pain. I can't have steroids, due to my MS. I have 4, yes FOUR, herniated discs as well as a very long list of complaints and diseases which leave me chronically sick and disabled.

    Hi @WalkingThroughMud
Welcome to the community, it sounds like you are really struggling, I am sorry to hear that. Have you ever seen anyone from a specialist pain team?

Thank you so much, Sam, for your response.

Yes, I have been under various Pain Clinics over the years.

Currently, I am on a waiting list for a group course in pain management, as recommended by The Pain Clinic Specialist at St Thomas's Hospital, in London.

My overall health means that I am too ill for a residential intensive course at St Thomas's, but I have been referred to my local hospital for an outpatient care management programme.

The course will not take the pain away, but will teach me different strategies for coping with my pain.

I have been in chronic pain since 1982, following a lumber puncture and mylogram, which were performed to determine the I have Multiple Sclerosis.

Very many thanks for the links to so many different ways to help me to find a way of helping me deal with the pain that I live with daily.

Also thank you for your warm welcome to the community.

    Best wishes

Thank you Steve 51 for your warm welcome to the community.

I'm so sorry to hear that you are in immense pain too.

May I ask what has caused you to be in such pain?

I have MS, which is at the core of my problem, but also I had Vacine Polio as a child which has meant that I have had a bad back since I was 8 years old.

    Best wishes.

    Hi Steve51,

    Thank you for your message.

I too have had a Stroke, but it wasn't particularly painful, thank goodness. I had it whilst having chemotherapy for Breast Cancer. The Stroke left me with amnesia, with no grammar or vocabulary. After a while I started to speak in broken French and then within a few days fluent French, which is strange was I am hopeless at languages and I only just passed my French O level at school. Also English was my first language.

Then one day I was at St Thomas's Hospital for Radiotherapy and I heard a couple speaking in French to each other and I approached them to ask where a waste paper basket was, but I couldn't find the word for a waste paper basket & suddenly I had forgotten all my French, which left me high and dry for quite a while until I had relearned English, with the help of a 5 year old, who gave me homework to relearn my alphabet, my numbers and how to draw (I had been at the Royal College of Art and I thought that drawing was more like riding a bike, until I had my Stroke.

Has your Stroke left you with frustrating problems or has the pain been your main problem?

Pain can be so all consuming that on some days I cannot think about anything else. I just want my life to end so that I don't have to remain in my body anymore, but then I realise how much I would upset those who love me and realise that they would prefer it if I were alive, although of course they don't want me to be in pain anymore than I do.

Quite a dilemma on some days.

I have spoken to my GP about my thoughts and am on a waiting list for CBT, no doubt, but I really need a talking therapy.

     I wish you well.

If I can help you by listening to your thoughts and fears, please do not hesitate in contacting me.

I am the most discrete of listeners as I rarely remember the details of what people tell me.

    Cheers.
