I really don't know maybe you could write a letter for me to ask why they take away my benefits in one hand and then give me it back then take it away again my circumstances haven't changed but they tell me I'm not entitled to it my argument is why they keep doing this and the upsets it causes to me its making my depression worse and its not fare I have gone through hell in my life but it doesn't matter to them as long as it makes there books look good they don't care about anyone who goes through this the government should step in and do something to stop these stupid assessments by people who haven't a clue what they are doing to people who need and rely on these benefits to make there life easier who is going to employ old people with all these illnesses or who can't help themselves

    Hi @tiggs9,

Sorry to hear that you're not getting the support you need.

Which benefit was it that's been taken away? I assume from your post that you've been through the appeals process - are you getting any support with your tribunal? Why were Citizens Advice not able to help?

Sorry for all the questions! I hope we can help.

Citizens advice did write a letter and I did receive a letter from the appeals people but they said I might not be able to go to tribunal because I was l ate in sending information but I phoned them and told them that I was seeking advice and that I couldn't get an appointment till that week and they said they would make a note of it and it would be ok but I haven't heard anything lately but I wish someone could come with me when I go to the tribunal as my husband comes with me but he not much help with that kind of thing and I get so depressed when I have to talk to them and they always make me feel like something they scraped of there shoe and it get really uptight and that doesn't help I just need some support but I don't know how

    Hi tiggs

I don't want to be indelicate but would you mind telling us your age ?
Is it PIP that you are being turned down for ?
Have you had an MR or are you waiting for the result from MR ?

If you are at the MR stage you might ask your MP to get involved

MR is mandatory reconsideration - it's the name of the first stage you go through when you appeal - when you ask the DWP to look at the decision again.

@tiggs9 MR stands for Mandatory Reconsideration. It is what you have to ask for in between the 1st Decision and the Appeal Tribunal. You must have done this as you can't apply for Appeal until you have. It's done by writing a letter to DWP after you get your Decision to say you don't agree with your award and you want them to look at your claim again. You can do this anytime up to the date of the tribunal. You can also ring DWP and ask for a call back from a Decision Maker which I suggest you do to find out why they keep stopping your PIP and to ask them what stage your claim is at and what you need to do.

That is what I did and why they have sent me all these pages but what the last assessment has said is so stupid it is unbelievable she said I had to stand on one leg she never even mentioned that and that I had to pinch her finger but I can't understand what that was about also she said I wasn't breathless why would I be breathless if I was sitting down don't make any sense to me at all next month I have to see a specialist about my chest as I have been getting chest infections so that is because of my asthma as that is getting worse I now am suffering with sciatica and they have upped my pain killers to 30mg of co codamol I'm so fed up with it all then they wonder why people suffer with depression it is definitely making mine worse if it wasn't for my family I wouldn't want to live

@tiggs9 You're not alone in feeling badly done to so many of us have been through what you're going through and we're here to listen and support you. If the system was fair and you have supplied medical evidence of your asthma that should have been accepted as fact and whatever the assessor said about you not being breathless should be meaningless. However that isn't what's happening and the assessor's word is being used for decisions over and above evidence from far more qualified medical doctors. It's all wrong. Try and keep calm and focus your energy on what you need to do now. Are you sure you have had your Mandatory Reconsideration, if so you will have had 2 brown envelopes with decisions since your last assessment? The first and then another saying your award is still the same. If so you only had a month from the date of the MR letter to apply for Appeal but it sounds like they're letting you go ahead with the appeal. Make sure you have sent all the evidence you can get to the Tribunal and hopefully you will be successful.

A lot of people have run into stupid problems generated by unqualified people doing assessments. I'm afraid that the Government won't step in and stop it as they started it in the first place. In their opinion too many people are claiming too much so they introduced PIP in order to take money away from people that deserve it. I suppose the hope is that a lot of people are in no fit state to protest the stupidity and they will achieve their goal. What has actually happened is that it has cost them a fortune in the overuse of an appeals system that cannot cope with the increase. So now ofc the system is backlogged dramatically and people are being made to suffer for no good reason. Instead of the process saving them money the appeals are costing more than ever.

It's a vicious circle as now they are trying harder than ever to refuse benefits to cover the excessive costs they have incurred.

The nightmare is that it is us that suffer the most.

Maybe we should all start a petition and look and find out how many of us have lost our benefits and show the government how much this is costing them and what they can do to stop all this because it ridiculous we ask the doctor for letters explaining our illnesses but nobody is taking any notice of the doctors or specialists if people suffer with depression surely it is going to cause more medication and care to deal with this surely this can't go on because it is causing people like myself more grief and costing the government more money than before
