Hi I'm new on here. Just been diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis at 31!! Not applied for pip yet, but have applied for esa. I have sent in my sick note from the doctors today which is backdated to the 17th of august as that's when my ssp ceased. Can this be backdated pay to me? I'm currently on no money whatsoever! Thank you. Jo.

Hi @flo2016, welcome to the community!
As I understand it, ESA may be backdated if the process takes longer than 13 weeks. You may find this more in-depth Citizens' Advice resource on ESA helpful too.
Best of luck with your claim, and hope you're managing okay at the moment. You may be interested in our chronic pain category, as there are some good tips for condition management on there! -
Hi Jo and welcome
To receive PIP a condition that affects your ability to manage daily tasks needs to be in place for 3 months and last for at least another 9.
Before applying for PIP it is essential to understand the points scoring system, the descriptors and the criteria for an award. A good place to start is the self test

Good luck with your ESA claim.
Not knowing your situation ( none of my business ) Can you manage rent/CT if it applies ?

In reference to pip descriptors .If u need to sit on bed to dress is this regarded as an aid as examiner said u would need to have mobility aids from Social work for this to be applicable for points.

Candyfloss, many people sit on the bed to dress so that would not be classed as an aid on it own
