Pain Management

Hi all,
I am not disabled myself but my partner is. i was just wondering how you manage pain on a day to day basis. My partner is on lots of meds and sometimes if you have been on them a long time they can stop working. She has tried hypnotherapy and it has worked really well for her. Has anyone else ever tried this?

Hi @mariotwinkle,
I've moved this post to our Dealing With Chronic Pain category; you might also like to check out the previous discussions in this group, as many of them contain helpful advice for pain management. I'm glad to hear that hypnotherapy is offering her some relief! -
Hi there @mariotwinkle, must be so hard seeing your loved one fighting pain. Have they ever been referred to a pain specialist? That has helped me with personalised coping methods, treatments and coming to terms with it.
Not had hypnotherapy but have had specialist pain therapist treatment and she did me the world of good. I was very sceptic as to how much it would help but it was great.
Other things like we've just had a stairlift and our bathroom converted which has minimised my pain using the stairs and bathroom. This felt impossible last year.... But little by little we are adapting our life around it. I say 'we' as I know you'll understand it becomes important to both of you. Hope you have support too.
In terms of practical help, what I need from my husband is:
Constant patience if I moan
I've just had 2 weeks of random good health and less pain - celebrate success together because it feels massive
Help and non patronising reminders to keep up to date with medication and appointments.
Helping avoid painful things like when I'm sore in the morning he brings me up some bread and fruit so I can make my breakfast in bed (my pain is when standing)
Giving n me access to things that cheer me up e. G. I love the outdoors, but wheelchair makes this hard so he gets me out and about and drives me to places to have a car picnic if nothing else possible.
Distraction in hard times : YouTube comedy, nature documentaries of baby animals, funny stuff really helps.
Moral support and is always on my side.
How are you getting on?
