Oh @thespiceman I get where you’re coming from totally, we’re given info from one place that then contradicts info from another, it’s a damn nightmare. Wish I could be there too to give you more support other than just words. To answer your question re motability, I actually spoke to them this morning to ask if I could keep my car for the 26 weeks as it states on their website and also in the Motability magazine that came through the letterbox this morning.

I’ve read it, my husband read it but apparently it’s only available if you’re still in receipt of dla and, to use their words, are transitioning onto pip from dla and joined the scheme in or before 2013.

I was awarded pip after three years of higher rate dla and have been in receipt of pip for two and a half years, enhanced rate of both components. Because of the ridiculous assessment by Atos in which the assessor might just have well been writing about someone else, notwithstanding the grammatical errors and contradictory sentences, the dwp decided in their infinite wisdom that I’m only entitled to standard rate care, nothing for mobility so I’m only entitled to keep the car for 8 weeks.

I would imagine that you, if you lose your mobility component at pip assessment, would also have to return your car after 8 weeks. I’m not 100% sure if I’m entitled to the £1000 and a third of the upfront payment we made when the car goes back, although it does seem from the literature that I would be as I joined the scheme in March 2013. It would appear that, if you join the scheme in 2014 and beyond, you’re not entitled to any payment to help you get a car privately. I’ve found nowhere where I can buy a reliable car for £1000 bearing in mind I’d need to pay insurance, servicing etc on top of that. I’m beyond upset, I just wish I could go to sleep and not wake up then this would all go away. The stress and uncertainty is killing me, they have no idea what they’re putting people through.

I’d like to take this chance to send you a big hug across the airwaves and I send my love too. Thank you so much for just being here, Gail xx

Thank you @thespiceman my lovely friend. Two hours sleep and I’m already overthinking everything again, it’s like a merry go round that won’t or can’t stop. However, the sun is shining and that always helps, I think I’ll take a good book into the garden and lose myself for a few hours. Sending you much love and hugs for just being you and being here, Gail xxx

Hi Richard, great to hear from you and I’m so glad I’ve found your community, I’m struggling with mental health and disability issues as well as my daughters mental health. It’s all rather draining but hey ho, onward and upward! You’re right, I do love flying and my husband has a private pilots licence. I did start my own journey down that route but mobility issues put paid to that as it did my love of driving fast sports cars and horse riding. I now watch horror movies, murder documentaries and knit and read. Rather boring and a tad morbid but better than stagnating! Looking forward to chatting too.

With my very best good wishes, Gail
This is so nice. You are still so positive. I have a lot to learn from you.
Even I once had a dream of becoming a commercial pilot, but I did not clear the tests due to which I am now on my route to become a RC Airplane pilot.

Hello @Tigermoth42 Good morning yes I am concerned and care about you  As a friend. You see what happens is.  This happens to me.  Understand you have a partner believe me having that is good to talk.  With him especially you need that rock.

See what happens is you get this in your head like an ear worm. Round and Round.  Then effects sleep and mental state. Then appetite and anxiety believe me causes more problems.

This is a merry go round in your head. My mind was so focused on this. I ended up hurting and effecting people in my support group. A mental health charity I once belonged to.

Please can I also say if you can try to appeal if you have good. Consider talking to charities either mental or physical. Look on the web for anything in your area.

To get support. Can be advantageous. As well others like Welfare Rights or Disability UK or even your MP.  They want to know your story.

Had to do this, on and off for the all the time being disabled or mentally ill or even my addiction of course.

That is another concern with anxiety comes well I reach for a drink to help. Then you are starting to drink.  More and more. Just a thought.

Please take care and best wishes always here.

Hi @thespiceman, so well done to you for kicking the alcohol into touch, that’s amazing! I’ve had my own journey with morphine and codeine addiction, been off it now for a year (although I do take buprenorphine as a substitute) my pain is worse and my head is clearer which doesn’t help my mental state. I know how you feel re anxiety and fear, l’m unable to go out of the house on my own, I couldn’t tell you exactly what I think is going to happen but I actively avoid any social situations including family ones. I overthink things constantly, round and round in my head, it’s exhausting. You come across as very positive and you’re certainly being supportive, it’s so lovely to know there are people like you and others on here who genuinely care. Wishing you a peaceful day, Gail xx

Hi @ethanscott and thank you so much for your lovely message. I used to fly RC gliders, drive RC cars and boats back in the day and my boyfriend at the time owned a shop selling all things RC, in fact he still does! It’s great fun isn’t it! Fantastic way of meeting people too if you join a club. I’ve often thought about trying RC helicopters but they’re expensive to buy and quite hard to fly although I must say I’m tempted to get a drone! My other half isn’t flying real aircraft at the moment as he has copd and needs to get another medical done so maybe I’ll get him one for his next birthday, although he’s completely in love, as am I, with spitfires. There’s an airfield near us that offers flights in a twin seater spit’ so I’m saving up to send him on one of those. I think he’ll lose the plot big time in a good way if he gets the chance to go up in one :) What RC aircraft do you fly? Wishing you a lovely Friday, all the best, Gail x

My lovely friend @thespiceman, I absolutely love your messages, thank you so so much and I’m so glad I’ve found this community and you. It’s lovely to find out about people through this medium. Even if I can’t go out and socialise, I can still make friends online and you’re one of my dear ones. Much love, Gail x

Hi @Sam_Scope, hope you’re having a peaceful Friday. This is such a fabulous site, thank you for all your hard work to make this happen. I’ve gained so much strength from other members of the community, it’s just wonderful to be able to chat without fear. As I said to the lovely @thespiceman, I struggle in social situations really badly and rarely leave my house or garden, and then only to go to docs appointments or the local drug and alcohol place that is helping me with my addiction to morphine and codeine. This is a breath of fresh air in my life so thank you from the bottom of my heart to you and your colleagues for making it possible <3 I hope you all have a wonderful weekend, much love, Gail x

Oh @lindadenise thank you my lovely, I’ve got things crossed - in my head as I can’t physically do it :) sadly it’s a waiting game, my husband wrote two letters (one of 5 and the other 7 pages, just hoping they read them!) and I sent some supporting letters that I already had in my possession. It’s the not knowing that’s a killer, it’s like being on a horrible rollercoaster that won’t stop in spite of my screaming lol. I hope you’re getting some sunshine where you are and that you have a lovely weekend. Much love, Gail x

Ohh that is just lovely. I'm sure he is going to enjoy the surprise very much.
I don't fly any RC Aircraft. It has just been one of my passions. I've never been able to afford one because of my financial situation. But I hope I get to fly one soon enough one fine day. I am literally collecting pennies and dimes so that I can get one.
Which one do you fly? Also can you give any kind of advice on which one is a good place to begin?

Hi @ethanscott I haven’t flown an RC plane in years but used to fly gliders - just chuck them off a high hill :) and a powered plane called a Panic designed by my then boyfriend’s brother. I suggest having a look for a local model shop that sells RC stuff, they usually have a club attached to them for flying with like-minded people and will give you plenty of info and help. You can usually buy secondhand planes at quite reasonable prices too. Do let me know how you get on.
