I follow some on facebook. I'd say, the better ones, are like psychologists but without those qualifications (or may additionally have them but are not in that role) in that they listen to people and help them improve their life and confidence. Depends what they specialise in also and what knowledge they have, the ones i follow specialise in CPTSD and abusive relationships and so can help issues surrounding that.

hi there, a life coach is someone who encourages you in life goals or professional goals. It could be for you to overcome something in your personal life or achieve a promotion and what steps you can take to get your goal accomplished. The help you think out side of yourself, they do not counsel or give advice but encourage you to think more clearly and positively for yourself.
life is too short to let others make you miserable.

Hello @Diogenes42 Pleased to meet you welcome I would add also all depends what they can and are offering to you.  Services.

I had a life coach to deal with my health issues around addiction. Employed by the well being service from the council.

As usually they take you through what you want from life. Help to achieve and have some goals to aim for. .  Could be for mental health or illness.  They will ask you for some agreement that you can do this and it is achievable. Using Steps and other motivational tools.

The lad I had to help me through after addiction. Helped look at my way of life. Have a goal to go for.  Made me think about healthy ways of living. There was also making sure to seek ways to combat my mental health.

What they do not do is counselling,  Run your life for you.  To help your mental state or illness or disability.

Through my life coach looked at my life more clearly and my diet and well being.

    Hope that helps.

Thank you all for your answers. They are very informative. I'm at a dead end on ideas for the usual issues in life, job, money, health. From what you've said I don't think a life coach would be able to help with these things. I've no idea where to go from here. Thanks again for the info.

There are many on youtube and facebook giving out basic help for free, you could do a search on them and for the things you feel you need help with and check them out? If you're still sure they are not suitable they won't force their paid services onto you, but maybe you find one you can relate to.

Hello @Diogenes42 Thanks for letting us know. My concern is you and you seem lost. How can I help and advise?

You remind me of what I went through at one stage of my life. Had money, job, relationships, friendships. Felt something was wrong.  My happiness realised I was in  spiral with my health. Things like my security, money, relationships did not mean anything. I wanted happiness not going out with friends who were not really interested being a friend.

Realised that had to do something.  So sat down with a piece of paper and put advantages in one column disadvantages in another.

For each one what did I do put a reason in each column.  Also this time of my life I was in my early twenties in a dead end job but lonely so lonely.

Understand if I did not do anything now then I would be regretting what I wished to do.

One aspect of my life was meeting these lads who had money loads of it. The aim to outsmart each other.  More money and what is the point. What is money as they always seemed fulfilled but underneath I could see it was not helping.

Had the friendships, relationships, the house, the car and the holidays but a drag . One of them admitted to me one night over a few bottles as you do.  Not happy and so it goes on.

Life is very short. By the way my former friend I have spoken about.  Felt he was going to have a mental breakdown. All I know I did not want to be like that or them.

One other friend who was similar got rid of the lot and found God.

I cannot tell you what ever you wish to do. Every body has an ambition, a goal an aim.  Used to write down mad silly ideas and have aims and goals can I achieve. Yet it is that thought process that can set you off. Called brain storming.

I sit here most days and know I write what I say and mean well. Supportive and be kind to the community.

All I know if I stayed where I was and did what I was expected by my parents. Who did not like me having a life.  I would not be here at all.

    Sad to say but true.

Sometimes it is a spark that can set off in your head why am I like this. Why am I not happy. My concern is my health and my fears and anxieties. I have and do suffer depression.

Thing is do I want to go back the way I was no With my addiction. A lot of my mental health issues are because I did not know what I should have done.  Because also my parents did a lot of damage to me mentally.

They were the sort that hold your back. I struggled to maintain civility but I achieved so much after leaving them.  You have to believe this but there were all in this system of being trapped. Got to have a job for life, and I did not want to be like them.

Only regrets that they did a lot of damage to me and also the one thing I was good at. My business.

Thank you for reading this if this helps.

    Pleasure to meet you

    Take care
