Hi there,
I'm looking for some advice to find some toys or fun things for an 8 year old newly blind girl.
My mother lives in Zimbabwe and one of her employee's children (Thembelani) recently had to have both eyes removed due to cancer. It's been a tremendous struggle as the Zimbabwe economy is in dire straits so there is no money, no access to health care. Despite it all we've managed to get her through the surgeries and she's learning to cope as best she can.
I am visiting Zim in December and would like to spoil her with some toys to cheer her up.
I would like to get some advice from the community on what toys would be most suitable or have been most effective in terms of being engaging and brining joy, but also helping with their development.
Any advice on the topic would be greatly appreciated.

How about some musical instruments like a xylophone or a recorder . A wind up radio ? A alphabet braille book contact blind association for learning ?

What about a chunky jigsaw. I know she can't see the picture but she could feel the shape? A feeling game - boxes with different things in she has to guess eg rice, balls, beads?
