Men - would you like to share your experience of your health on BBC Radio Sheffield?

I host a radio show on BBC Radio Sheffield called Nowt So Strange As Folk on a Wednesday evening 7-9pm.

Tonight's theme is around men's health both physical and mental and I was wondering if anyone had any comments they would like me to read out? It could be something about your experience as a disabled man or how you feel about the treatment of mental health for men.

Let me know in the comments below and I will try and read out as many as possible.  I think it would be great to make sure we hear the voices of disabled men in mainstream radio!

    The the trouble with us men is we bottle everything up, we aren’t willing to share our feelings and emotions with our next of kin let alone strangers. Yet the person you, we I meet in the park share our dog walk with may just be the person to share your worries and concerns with. You may never see them again or it could be a start of a great and useful friendship. Myself a MS sufferer with mobility issues am always grateful for the interaction with other dog walkers talking on and about local,national and inter national issues, health, money family relationships you name it we may have talked about it. Being a Christian as helped me with verbal support from fellow church goers and being comfortable with your, my disability accepting your new way of living your, my life, adjusting to what you, me can now do and not worry about what we used to do. We are living the future now not dwelling on the past enjoy what you we have.

    The main physical issue for me was when I developed testicular cancer and unfortunately, it had spread. This meant that I had to undergo a year of intensive chemotherapy all pretty standard until they had to base my dose on weight. The hospital did not have the equipment to weigh me as I'm wheelchair user so they guesstimated the amount of chemo I would need. This resulted in me having ongoing health issues caused by the chemo.

    In terms of mental health, it was always assumed by the professionals that any and all symptoms I presented with were all directly attributable to my Cerebral Palsy. This was not the case. Nothing was ever investigated further as my disability was an easy thing to pin my behaviour too.
