Did I cause or worsen my scoliosis? Is it my fault?

Hi, I decided to post this here because I also have trouble with anxiety and OCD.

So I want to know if scoliosis is my fault... Because I had underweight at 55 kg somewhere from 16 to 19 years due to anxiety and psychosis. (I'm also male) Then at the end of 19 years we discovered a 20° S curve scoliosis. At 20 years of age my weight was completely normal again.

Do you think scoliosis is my fault though? Did the underweight cause or worsen my scoliosis? Or maybe I developed it due to poor sitting positions and posture? Does anyone know if it's something I did wrong that caused or worsened my scoliosis? Could it have been prevented?

I asked my doctor and an orthopaedic and since it's an idiopathic scoliosis they don't know the cause and couldn't answer my question. So I want to hear your opinions and assumptions.
Is scoliosis my fault and did I worsen or cause it? What did I do wrong to get it? Could it have been prevented?

    Dear @Miracle37

I'm wondering why you need to know the cause of your scoliosis - what would be the benefit of knowing whether it was your fault or not?

Either way you can't turn back time so it feels like you are seeking a reason to bash yourself over the head over something you can't change/control now anyway?

How could you let this notion go and instead focus on things that you can now control eg reducing your anxiety and taking active steps to reduce/eliminate your OCD [which coincidentally is also about the notion of retaining control]?

    Best wishes.

    Emma

Sorry we are not able to give medical opinions on the forum. If your GP and specialist cannot answer the question for you maybe it is time to move on

Why? Are you seeing a therapist or counsellor or not? You can’t zoom back in time unfortunately. As much as I sometimes wish I could take away my son’s disability I cannot. My job is to basically help him develop his strengths and minimise any limitations. I also foster self confidence and encourage him to work on his self care skills as well.
Please let it go. If you need any more help or advice feel free to message me anytime.

Ok but does anyone know if scoliosis was my fault? Did my underweight cause or worsen it?

Hi @Miracle37 as @CockneyRebel has said, we are not medical professionals therefore we cannot advise. Please seek help from a medical professionalz regarding emotional support  as it is not fair on yourself to try and blame yourself.
