Job centre doctors benefit claimants with mental health problems will be fast tracked for treatment under a drive to get more people into work Medical Experts will be stationed in Job Centres to give an on the spot assesement and have the power to refer people for treatment Ministers believe getting a job and mixing with other people speeds up recovery.. This new approach is being tested by the DWP and NHS in buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes.... Amber Rudd i know that security of a regular wage the camoraderie of the work place and the self esteem you get from being in work can vastly improve the mental health of so many people...This to me is all wrong and will this goverment and the DWP STOP AT NOTHING THE ANSWER IS NO......

@wilko I have expressed my concerns regarding this, as I believe it will push many into very dark places, it took me nearly a year to trust my CMHT, psychiatrist etc before I could even open up to them.

As ive told Amber Rudd in a strongly worded letter  I will not be able to talk about anything to total strangers or even go to a Jobcentre.

I agree work would be good for you if one can sustain it. I’m to far gone now to hold down part time or full time jobs now.

Where do these people get these ideas from, I’ve already been under a psychiatric, psychiatrist and CMHT for over 5 years, still am, and counting, and also suffer physical disability’s also and I’ve already been told I will only get worse. I think this Government are just hell bent on forcing work on people who clearly can’t.

All this is another excuse to *bleep****off the vulnerable again. I’m so glad I’ve decided I’m not going to bother now to claim UC when the Full Managed Migration starts, I really cannot cope anymore of this jumping through the never ending hoops they keep making us jump through.

All these hairbrain schemes from this government and the DWP are really doing me in now, all they do is push, push and keep *bleep* pushing us.

This is in breach of international laws and is deliberate genocide it for

to investigate and take actions! The evidence is mounting and there intentions become although bold and obvious

    @freckles I see I mentioned @wilko by mistake... Sorry.

We are trying to fight this, but Ameber Rudd is a force to reckon with. I do now feel she will be just as bad as you know who.

I truly believe they are breaking many legal matters in forcing this upon people and the misery it will cause. This is nothing knew in the case of trying to force people into this situation.

Many people will almost definitely find it very, very hard to even talk to these people in the first place, let alone even make it to a Jobcentres.

I have written to Amber Rudd and stated do you really know what you are doing forcing people to engage with this crazy idea and it takes people with mental disabilities a long time to discuss their problems, if ever.

Freckles I do believe they are forcing our hand in the hope we give up. I've decided and made the decision not to go ahead with UC when the time comes, I will struggle but it's better for me if I can get away from this Government and the DWP, it's sent me over the edge over this last couple of years by trying to end my life. No more.

You asked is it gonna get worse, I think you may already know the answer to that.

DWP slammed by charity for plan to hold mental health assessments in JobCentres

EXCLUSIVE: Mind told the Mirror Jobcentres are "completely inappropriate" and could throw vulnerable benefit claimants into further distress.

A top mental health charity today blasted new plans to put mental health advisors in JobCentres.

JobCentre staff will be able to refer claimants for treatment under the scheme by Tory Amber Rudd - with vulnerable people even assessed in the Jobcentre itself.

The Work and Pensions Secretary said the scheme, to be trialled in Milton Keynes, will spot those in need and get them help quicker.

But Mind, one of Britain's biggest mental health charities, told the Mirror Jobcentres are "completely inappropriate" for treatment.

Policy manager Paul Spencer said "we need to see" improvements for mental health but "these plans are not the way to do that."

He added: "Mental health services should be delivered in a calm and therapeutic environment by people with knowledge and expertise about the complex and varying nature of mental health, and how it can impact someone’s life.

"Jobcentres are completely inappropriate environments to talk about mental health.

"They are usually busy, noisy and open-plan, causing anxiety and leading people to worry that private conversations can be overheard."

He added: "People with mental health problems repeatedly tell us they dread any encounters at Jobcentres because of a lack of trust and concerns that their benefits will be stopped or cut if they can’t do what’s asked of them.

"Even when Jobcentre initiatives are described as voluntary too many people still fear losing their benefits if they’re not able to engage for any reason.

If people feel pressure to receive or undergo treatment which is not right for them, that risks damaging their trust in mental health services and willingness to seek help in the future, increasing the chance of people reaching crisis point."

And he said: "If the Government really wants to improve the support for people with mental health problems in the benefits system then they should remove the threat of sanctions altogether, and overhaul the culture of Jobcentres."

Another charity, Rethink Mental Illness, said more specialist support for jobseekers was a "positive thing".

But policy chief Gillian Connor warned: "We have also heard many upsetting accounts from people with mental health problems who felt pressured by the DWP to get working before they were ready, which only made them more unwell.

"Many people have also told us that a lack of understanding of mental illness among JobCentre staff has made every step of accessing benefits they rely on incredibly difficult.

Having more mental health trained specialists in job centres generally could help improve things, and it will be interesting to hear from those involved in the pilot how the trial goes to assess people in job centres and refer them for treatment.

"It’s good to trial new ideas but decisions need to be based on what’s best for the people the benefits system is meant to be there to support."

The policy, unveiled over the weekend and confirmed today by Ms Rudd in the Commons, will see Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) and NHS staff test a "new approach to treatment".

Under the trial, DWP Work Coaches will be given "new abilities" to refer people for treatment.

An initial mental health assessment would then take place in the Jobcentre itself - cutting out the current 28-day wait.

DWP officials insisted the trial is entirely voluntary and designed to help people access support.

Anyone taking part will be offered support by “trained healthcare professionals” in an area away from the main floor of the Jobcentre.

Ms Rudd said: "I know that the security of a regular wage, the camaraderie of the workplace and the self esteem you get from being in work can vastly improve the mental health of so many people.

"That’s why providing people with mental health conditions with as much support as possible, so they can get back into work, is one of my top priorities."

Health Secretary Matt Hancock added: "The move is expected to significantly improve waiting times for access to psychological therapies (IAPT) services and enhance the Jobcentre’s support so it reaches the most vulnerable people."

So what about all the people who are under a phychatrist or mental health team what happens now to them its like having a second opinion mental health worker.... In the job centre who is bound to be on the side of the DWP and find more people fot for work so everyone when you have a meltdown or feel suicidal forget your own mental health team forget your G.P. forget ringinging samaritans... WHO YOU GUNA CALL THE JOB CENTRE

@freckles try not to worry for now, as we and many are already under MH, CMHT.
I have mental health come to me 3 times a week.

I would like to think we should be ok as we are already getting the help.  We and others will try to get this thrown out before it gets started.

The DWP know what I'm like and they would be very foolish to push me as I won't stop once I start amd it's all documented with them. I'm certified of my head it would be in their interest in keep pushing me to say the least as I'm one that will never backed down.
