Hi @pricey welcome to the community! Sorry to hear this, has she received any advice from her GP regarding emotional support? It is tough trying to accept our diagnosis :(

It is natural to compare ourselves to others who are healthy and to realize that we lack somehow. It is something that can be grown out of with proper and appropriate support. What is most important is to make that person maximize their abilities and help them realize they are not completely incapable. Stephen Hawkins is a good example of this though rather an exceptional one but everyone can become better with help and support. I remember watching virtually blind skiers competing in the olympics and being amazed just how good they were.

We are ALL good at something.

    Hi @pricey

If you felt you would like to speak to someone and receive emotional and practical support this may be of interest to you.

Scope have recently launched a new service called Navigate. Navigate provides support to parents who have children under the age of 18 who have been diagnosed with an impairment in the past 12 months or are on the pathway to diagnosis.  This is a free 6 week service where you have a personal adviser to support you and give practical guidance and emotional support. If you think this may be right for you, you can find out more at https://www.scope.org.uk/family-services/navigate or phone us on 0808 801 0510.

    All the best smile
