Going from a folding to a rigid wheelchair - using taxis

Hi all
Was hoping for some advice. I am 28 years old, have cerebral palsy and have an independent active life, using a manual wheelchair.

I've been through a whole plethora of folding wheelchairs and have never really been happy with their durability. After a year and a half it always seems to be at the end of the road.

For easier pushing and better durability, I'm very tempted to go for a rigid wheelchair next time. But, living in a big city, I use a lot of Ubers and taxis to get around. I'm wondering therefore if a rigid wheelchair is just storing up trouble for myself?

Has anyone made this transition and has experiences to share? Love to know too if you love your chair and can recommend it!

Many thanks

    Hey
A rigid char is a lot harder to put in a car boot - unless you take the wheels off! Taking the wheels off is easy and then put the rigid frame on the seat next to you or in the boot.

I appreciate what you're saying about the durability of folding chairs though. I always had bits falling off mine whereas my rigid chair is much more sturdy.

Let me know what you decide.

    Hi @wheels1991
I live with CP and have used rigid wheelchairs for the majority of my adult life. Rigid frames can be awkward in hatchback vehicles but it's not impossible. They are far superior to folding chairs. I use black cabs through an app
