Hello
I would appreciate if anyone could help me I am 31 year old young man with cerebral palsy  who is going into hospital for operation. Will the hospital allow my dad or my mum to stay with me at the hospital because I am going to need help at night.

Can you ask the nurses for help or not? Last time I was in the hospital for a operation I asked for help from the nurses.
What specifically do you need help with? How long will the operation take? Will you be put to sleep for it or not? I recommend packing everything the night before. Make a list of questions to ask them. Also have a list of things that you need to take.
I usually have a hospital bag by my bed just in case. It’s packed at the moment because my son will have surgery on Monday morning.

It will be best to ring the hospital or ward, explain your situation  and ask the question

Best wishes and healing thoughts  to your  son. I hope his surgery goes as well as can be expected

Do you have any friends who can help you or not? I would talk with your urologist too. What about your parents? Do you live near them or not? In any case you need to talk to the doctor.

I am sure nurses and health care assistants will help you . They may let someone stay with you best contact the ward. But bear in mind they have other patients there who may not be comfortable with someone staying all night especially if you are in shared ward.
From my experience in hospital you will get help with anything you need. Good luck and hope surgery goes well

    Hi @Globster
I would contact the ward and discuss the fact that you will need extra support and night. In my experience, the nursing staff generally welcome an extra pair of hands.

    Hi @Globster
Are you able to discuss it with the consultant?

Can you get in contact with the hospital or not? Ask to see if the consultant can see you earlier. I find showing up unexpectedly at the hospital with my son in tow helps make a difference. Don’t give up. Last week I took my son to his orthopedic doctor at our local hospital and we were seen without delay.
