Grant funding

My OT has done an assessment at home and has recommended some changes to the house for me to gain a bit more independence. I’ve applied for the Diabikity Funding Grant and I believe this is means tested.
I was just wandering if anyone knows how much I would need to contribute as my partner works and I can’t find any information online.
Thanks
Ash

Its decided by each local authority as they were given discretionary powers to administer the funding in 2008.

Try & be kind to one another even if we may have different views.

Hi @ash5896, have you heard anymore about this? The contribution may be based on your savings.

    Hi @ash5896

A Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG), is means tested, your household income is taken into consideration, as well as savings over £6,000.

The grant in England has a £30,000 limit.

There is also a clause, if you are a home owner, that if you sell the property in the future, you will be liable to repay some of the grant.

Your council should provide specific details, prior to your pending financial assessment, about the DFG scheme they operate.

    Hope this helps.

    Hello @ash5896
Here is a Grants Checker Tool that might help.

So had a financial assessment last week and got a reply literately a few minutes ago. We have been refused the grant so unfortunately can’t have any of the works done that the OT said I needed. It is really disappointing as we don’t have any savings at all and never have done. I’m going to try and speak to my OT or social worker to see if they can help. We even applied for a bank loan prior to this and this was rejected as we didn’t have enough disposable income.
I really feel let down now as prior to my disability I worked all my life and when your in need there doesn’t seem to be any help. I wouldn’t even mind if I could get myself a job but even that’s a nightmare. They tell you they’re interested but when they see the extent of your disability you don’t meet their criteria.

Hi @ash5896, I'm really sorry to hear this! I hope your OT or social worker is able to recommend something further so you can access the support you need.

    Please do keep us updated!

Did you try the grant checker tool that @Richard_Scope suggested?

Or you could try contacting your local MP if none of the above works. Here is a tool that allows you to see who your MP is and how you can contact them: https://www.parliament.uk/mps-lords-and-offices/mps/

I did yes. Unfortunately our MP is not very helpful. I’ve tried contacting her on a number of occasions but never get a response
