Good day, I had Rt. wrist fusion in Nov 2017, hand only out of plaster yesterday . Felt realy helpless as I am right handed. Off sick from work. Can one apply for disability benifit for this? How are you getting on? Jennifer.

Hi
Disability benefit is now paid as Personal Independance Payment.
PIP is based on functionality and the difficulties you have with daily activities
To qualify a condition needs to be present for three months and likely to continue for a further nine months
To see if you may qualify try the B&W self test

Hi @Carlton
The main disability related benefit for people of working age is Personal Independence Payments (PIP) , you can read more about this on the Scope website:
https://www.scope.org.uk/support/disabled-people/benefits/pip
It would also be worth using the benefits calculator to see if you have an entitlement to any other benefits:
https://www.scope.org.uk/support/disabled-people/benefits/check
Hope this helps

Hi I have a fusion on my left arm just over a year ago . I have now had the plate taken out and I am really worried when I have the casted taken off tomorrow I am getting so much pain it is untrue . Has anyone had to have the plate taken out and if so how has it been?

Hi @Lyianna2005
Welcome to the community. I'm sorry to read that you are in pain. There is always some pain and discomfort after a surgical procedure. I had a plate removed from my right hip. It took about 2 weeks to start feeling okay. When you have the cast removed I would speak with the medical professionals about pain relief. Also, what exercises that are suitable to minimise pain.
Please let me know how you get on.

Hi Richard
Thank you for your comment. I am on my way now to have a CT scan and have the cast off after I had the wrist done it has never really settled down with the pain and I feel very restricted with my arm and that is not helpful at all. -
Hi @Lyianna2005 and welcome to the community! I hope it goes okay with your appointment today. Please do let us know how you get on.

How many people qualified for PIP with a total wrist fusion. I have waited 12 months for operation and was thinking of applying for PIP before the op but I didnt. I had my operation a week ago now and dont whether to apply now or wait. ANy advice would be helpful. Also if anyone did get PIP was it the higher or lower scale amount > Cheers Pete

Hi Petf, I have had both wrists fused & due to the difficulties this causes along with me also having dropped foot after having a hip resurfacing caused it.
Have been able to be granted the mid level of PIP.
But everyone is affected differently & am sure most people have more than 1 joint issue which will affect what your capable of.
I have learned to know when something I used to be able to do has sometimes now become impossible or too painful to do.
