Have you contacted Shelter @Sjcloud40? They are running a housing advice clinic at the moment on Mumsnet. You might find that to be a helpful resource  https://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/property/3691155-MNHQ-here-Sign-in-for-a-FREE-advice-clinic-about-housing-issues-from-Shelter
You will have to make a account first!

    Hi @Sjcloud40,

I am really sorry but I am still confused about how your overpayment has arisen. If you would have been entitled to UC from the time you moved, have you asked for this to be offset against any overpayment of ESA and tax credits? It may have been that you would have received less money on UC but £5000 seems like a lot less!
You are repaying the money at a very high rate-have you argued that this is causing you severe financial hardship and asked for a lower level of repayment?
Have you had help from a Benefits specialist at Macmillan?
You might find it helpful to speak to someone, and we have advisers on our Helpline who may be able to help. This is free and is open 8am to 8pm Monday to Friday and 10am to 10pm at the weekend.

    Joanne

    No it’s fine Joanne,
I moved in Aug 2017 and was receiving E&S and Tax credits the second I moved in I should of been told I was in a U/C area I was told in June 2018 although I told everyone I had moved and brought in the new council for help with housing and Benefits Discretionary it went missed, they admitted their failings however because I continued to take money from E&S and Tax credits over two financial years and never received the payment twice from U/C because they don’t back date. I am repaying £300 per month, I have paid back over a year but it’s a real struggle.....
they have just agreed Discretionary but I think it’s down to them seeing a picture the weekend of my 18 year old daughter in Intensive care surrounded by tubes......
with a letter from Doctors saying they have split a family up since 3rd Sept whilst my daughter is having a transplant caught sepsis and ecoli so she is gravely Ill.
Mcmillan have been great and my MP is trying I have gone to the housing oubudsman even the hospital said it’s like they have blacklisted me and they have left me in huge debt
