Car tax and attendance allowance

Hi all
I called DVLA to ask if my dad can claim a discount on his car tax as my mum has attendance allowance and a blue badge. They said to call the DWP. You know how frustrating it can be to attempt to get through! Does anyone know please?

The answer is no (Ive just looked it up) I assume because AA doesn't have a mobility component.

Hi @Jaanu38, unfortunately not, here is the eligibility:

You can apply for exemption from paying vehicle tax if you get the:

higher rate mobility component of Disability Living Allowance (DLA)

enhanced rate mobility component of Personal Independence Payment (PIP)

War Pensioners’ Mobility Supplement

Armed Forces Independence Payment

The vehicle must be registered in the disabled person’s name or their nominated driver’s name.
It must only be used for the disabled person’s personal needs. It cannot be used by the nominated driver for their own personal use.

You also can get 50% off if you get PIP standard rate mobility. I hope this helps/
